Second World War at Sea: Battle Cruisers into Carriers
DescriptionThis is the twenty-second of the Avalanche Press Golden Journal supplements. It contains 30 additional counters as well as new scenarios for their use. Britain’s Royal Navy converted the hulls of three “light battle cruisers” into aircraft carriers: Courageous, Glorious and Furious. Three other battle cruisers served in their original configuration: Repulse, Renown and Hood. Much larger ships than the light battle cruisers, they would have operated a much more powerful air group had they been converted into aircraft carriers instead. Aircraft carriers are pretty vulnerable when alone – German battle cruisers sank Glorious – and needed escorts against both surface and air attack. So our set also has the original light battle cruisers in their surface combatant guise, as modernized for a new war. The United States Navy converted two of their Lexington-class battle cruisers into aircraft carriers and scrapped the other four of the class. The Washington Naval Limitations Agreement limited each power to 66,000 tons’ worth of such conversions, allowing the Americans to convert two of the big ships and the British to re-build three of their smaller battle cruisers. In our set, you get the others, too: Constitution, Constellation, Ranger and United States. Because you need them. —description from the publisher Game DiscussionsAdd CommentYou need to be logged in to comment. Insert Bullet List Please enter at least one item.
