    Description

Four steering wheels anchor the Brain Shift game, with one wheel designated for each player. In the center of the game sits the stick shift, surrounded by six color (and numbered) lights: (1) red; (2) green; (3) yellow; (4) blue; (5) orange; and (6) white. During a game, players will shift to each of these lights according to the prescribed pattern.

There are six games in all:
Stick Shift: Brain Shift calls out a player, followed by a color, the player must shift to that color. Additional colors are added and the time to complete the shift decreases until only one player is left. Later on in the game, the timer in the game becomes so fast that the player is forced to 'shift' the color whilst it's being called out. Most notability, at later shift levels such as trying to get 14 shifts, the game will cheat the player at the very last shift. The last green on level 14 becomes impossible to shift to and will cause the player to fail.
Memory Shift: Brain Shift calls out a player, plus a sequence of colors. Players must shift to these colors or be eliminated. Players are called in order.
Who Shifts It: Just like Memory Shift except random players are chosen each turn.
Ear Shift: A sound is associated to each light. Brain Shift plays the sounds and players must shift to the appropriate color that is assigned to that sound to stay in the game.
Secret Shift: Brain Shift gives you one color, then you must guess the others in 60 seconds. One player only.
Shift Around: Brain Shift provides a starting sequence. Thereafter, each player adds one color after completing the previous sequence.

The game also has a hidden 'test mode'. To access the test mode, you must hold down the 'POWER' and 'PAUSE' buttons, remove battery cover, take out one battery 'not the top left or bottom left batteries' and then release the two buttons. You will hear a hidden 'Happy Birthday' music. If you shift green, you will hear most of the voices in the game. If you shift yellow, you'll hear the main menu music and if you shift blue, you'll hear most of the voices used in game and the gameplay background music. If you shift red you will hear a beep and if you shift white you'll hear the Happy Birthday music again. Don't shift white too many times or the game will shut off and exit test mode.

In 2018, Samtastic Games Studios successfully created a game called Mob Shift that remakes the Brain Shift toy for iOS and Android and it also works nicely on PC and Mac. Mob Shift version 2.0 can be downloaded from the iTunes Store and itch.lo for $1.99.
