Wordopoly
DescriptionPlayers start with a small amount of game money, then round a Monopoly-like game board where each "property" is a play on a linguistic term (Definition Drive, Antonym Avenue, Hyperbole Heights, etc). Landing on a property gives players the chance to buy it by correctly answering a related question. Players may also land on Opportunity Knocks spaces, where they draw a card to receive either a bonus ("Your story is voted most imaginative. Collect $10.) or a penalty ("You mix up antonyms and synonyms. Pay $5.). The board's Brain Drain space is its answer to Monopoly's Jail, and Think Tank is its Free Parking. The winner is the first player who collects all seven properties from one of the four color groups. In addition to buying properties on which they land, players may also buy, sell, or trade properties with one another to reach the goal. Game questions focus on American English grammar, vocabulary, expressions, and syntax, and increase in difficulty from kindergarten to high school level. They may be asked to all players in their original order, or may be chosen based on each player's age, so that younger and older players all have questions appropriate to their knowledge level. Wordopoly is packaged in a durable blue plastic case with a double snap closure. It includes a folding game board, two six-sided dice, money in increments of $5, $10, and $20, 64 Opportunity Knocks cards, 28 deed cards, a rules manual, and six pawns.
