Tamerlane Chess
DescriptionTamerlane Chess is a strategic board game related to chess and shatranj. It was developed in Persia and was favored by the 14th century Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur the Lame (also known as "Tamerlane"), who thought regular (queen's) chess was not complex enough. The board consists of a 10 by 11 unchecked pattern along with extra squares are called citadels. This version of chess has multiple types of pawn, and each one promotes itself based on the type of pawn, i.e. Pawn of Pils promotes to Pils (Elephant). The playing pieces include the king, the general, the vizir, the giraffe, the picket, the knight, the rook, the elephant, the camel, the war engine, and pawns.
