Sittuyin
DescriptionThe traditional chess of Burma (Myanmar) appears to have all but died out, supplanted by international chess. This is one of the most unusual regional variations of the game. The pawns are set up in staggered formation near the center of the board, and the other pieces are deployed ad lib behind the line. Pawns are promoted on different ranks of the board depending on their file. It's doubtful that the rules were ever completely standardized. The standard account in English is given by Pritchard in his Encyclopedia of Chess Variants. Game DiscussionsAdd CommentYou need to be logged in to comment.
