    Description

An operational level game in postcard size/format, of the August 7-13 1944 German counter-offensive trying to break through Mortain and neighboring towns (down in "Normandy's Switzerland") to get westward to Avranches on the sea to cut off supplies and units to Patton's 3rd Army pouring through it into Brittany and the rest of France.

6 divisions on each side, plus the heroic 2nd Battalion, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th (Old Hickory, National Guard) Division which successfully held out surrounded atop Hill 317 above Mortain for 6 days. 7 one-day turns, as historically.

50% strategic possibility of treacherously patriotic anti-Hitler conspirator General der Panzertruppen Gerhard Graf von Schwerin as historically - and he survived the SS and the war! - holding back 116.PzDiv for the crucial first 2 days, in which case victory for the German player is instead just cutting 1st Army's nearer north-south route to get units down and around to the east to form the southern flank of the Falaise Pocket which decimated the German Army in the West, historically.

Factor differential plus press-your-luck Pressed Attack and/or Desperate Defense - Special Factor - combat mechanics which make it excellent for solitaire play.
U.S. infantry division Deployment doubling their strengths for both artillery-supported defense *and attack*.

Allied RAF 84 Group Typhoons and 303rd Wing P-47 Thunderbolts to aerially torment the Germans.
Subtle Disruption Recovery phase variation to simulate veteran German units' operational resilience.

Anyone is free to print off as many copies as they like in A5/5x8 or A6/4x6 postcard format, to mail/give to family and friends, as long as they keep my copyright statement and the Dedication.

For your one own personal copy, you will want to photo-copy enlarge the units to A4/8.5x11 and the map to A3/11x17 ... or larger, if you want. Anyone wanting to *publish* a (boxed?) large format edition of the game must license that right from me.

    FIENDISH little game.
