    Description

The 5th century BC is the golden age of ancient naval warfare. It is the age of the Persian and Peloponnesian wars, of Salamis and the Arginusae, of Temistocles and Phormio, when triremes ruled the Mediterranean. Oi navarcoi! is a wargame ruleset to play fleet battles during that time.

The trireme was a long and thin unstable platform, with ram as the main armament. It was built for speed and for ramming, a man-propelled guided torpedo. Well trained crews could exploit the trireme's qualities with complex tactics such as the periplous or diekplous.

Oi Navarcoi aims to replicate this specific character of classical era naval warfare, which is different from the later Hellenistic and Roman periods – when ships got bigger and bigger and emphasis was definitely on boarding and missile fire (even with war engines!).
